Searching for Normalcy

"And finally, above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that’s why I made works of art…" – Felix Gonzalez-Torres

I know, I know. I haven’t posted a Spoken Word Wednesday video in ages. Sue me.

Anyway, with it being Black History Month and all, I give you “So I Run” by Will da Real One Bell. This guy is an awesome talent, and one the nicest, shyest people you’ll ever meet in person (I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him and he is a sweetheart).

Wow, I haven’t done one of these in a looong time. Well, I’m not feeling particularly poetic, so instead I’ll share this funny video I saw on Dooce’s blog.

David Sedaris reading one of his essays on David Letterman. Please to enjoy!

I’ve actually met Will Da Real One a few times (he’s from Miami) and he is a really sweet, soft-spoken guy. Which is why I find his poetry so amazing and powerful. He really leaves his heart on the stage.

Also, this is for Fanless, since he reminded me that I haven’t posted any poetry in a few weeks. =)

The boy and I watched "Wanted" this weekend and Common is in it, playing an assassin (sp? assasin?? whatever!), so I thought I’d share one of his poems.

Enjoy!
