Searching for Normalcy

"And finally, above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that’s why I made works of art…" – Felix Gonzalez-Torres

Thanksgiving Weekend November 29, 2010

We had a busy Thanksgiving weekend, starting with:

1) A hockey game on Wednesday. We went to the Panthers v. Bruins game with our friend, Eric, who is a huge Bruins fan. We got a great deal, paying $50 for seats that are regularly $90. And that included access to the Coach’s Club, which had an all-you-can-eat buffet and open bar!

My handsome dates, Fanless and Eric (blue cap).

This time I managed to get a picture when the Panthers scored a goal. (They lost 1-3.)

IMG00258-20101124-2034

The Coach’s Club has access to a rooftop terrace, which makes for a nice night time photo.

2) On Thursday, we had a yummy Thanksgiving lunch at my sister’s house, with way too many carb-y side dishes.

My sister and my niece.

Turkey, honey-baked ham, and a whole lotta carbs!

3) Later that night, Fanless and I met up with Eric for our Thanksgiving tradition of having dinner at the 11th Street Diner on South Beach.

Took this pic with Fanless’ iPhone using the Instagram app. That is totally my new favorite app!

4) On Black Friday, we hit up Target and Best Buy, but decided to wait until later in the evening to avoid all the mass hysteria in the morning. That was pretty smart of us, if I do says so. Fanless managed to get all the following items for $200, and we never dealt with crazy crowds or ridiculously long lines.

(He ended up getting two more of the WD 2TB HDs at Target on Saturday morning. So four 2TB HDs for $70 each. Sweet!)

After leaving Target on Saturday, we picked up some Subway sandwiches for lunch, then headed home and chilled out the rest of the weekend.

I have the day off today (trying to use up all my vacation days before the end of the year), so I ran a couple of quick errands in the morning, then treated myself to some Starbucks coffee. I think I might try to squeeze in some scrapbooking now.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy weekend! Peace out, yo!

Coincidence

Just a quickie post so I can remember this moment…

I’m sitting on my bed with the laptop in front of me, drinking my venti nonfat white mocha latte from Starbuck’s, and scrolling through my blog subscriptions on Google Reader. When I got to Christina Clouse’s blog, I had to grab my camera (which was in my purse right next to me) and snap a pic because this was just too funny to ignore:

coincidence

I happened to be resting my cup on the edge of the laptop, holding it at the exact same angle as the one in the picture on her blog.  I know, it’s kind of dumb, but I thought it was a cute coincidence.

Birth Announcements November 21, 2010

Filed under: Scrapbooking — Lulu @ 1:10 am

I finished making custom, handmade birth announcements for my friends, Carl and Agi, to send out to their friends and family. I had previously made them a custom baby album, which they loved. Agi is extremely artistic and creative herself, so I knew she would appreciate having unique birth announcements.

I made 50 cards, all by hand, using different paper collections and embellishments to create several different styles.

These four were made with a Noel Mignon kit. I believe the papers are October Afternoon, but I’m not sure.

baby-cards2

These all use paper from a “Best Of” collection from KI Memories.

baby-cards3

These papers are all from K&Company Greenhouse.

baby-cards5

These are from a DCWV stack (Whimsy, I think??)

baby-cards6

These papers are all Making Memories Sabrina collection.

baby-cards7

These are from Prima Rock On.

baby-cards8

I made these with Basic Grey Wisteria papers.

baby-cards9

These are all Sassafras papers.

These last two I can’t remember… Maybe Making Memories or Crate Paper?

baby-cards12

I used different punches throughout, as well as brads, buttons and other items from my stash. The little silver charms are from the baby shower section at Michael’s. The little circles have baby footprints in the center, and the hearts read “It’s A Girl.” I also used Stickles in diamond and gold here and there. All the sentiments are from either a baby-themed, acrylic stamp set from Stampendous (I think) or individual rubber mounted stamps from Hero Arts.

100 truths: A Meme November 19, 2010

I wanted to take a break from working, so I decided to do this meme (which I stole from one of my friends on Facebook).

Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 100 Truths about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. Tagged means "I’m interested in knowing what are your 100 truths". (To do this, go to "notes" under tabs on your profile page, copy and paste this note, erase my answers and enter your own, tag people (in the right hand corner of the app then click publish.)

Yeah, I’m totally not doing that. If you want to do it for yourself, be my guest.

Our Weekend in Photos November 15, 2010

It was one of our rare, busy-busy weekends…

Friday:

Since Fanless’ birthday was on Thursday, November 11th, I took him to his first ever hockey game at the Bankatlantic Center on Friday, the 12th. We got there fairly early so we got to watch the practice prior to the game. It was the Florida Panthers vs. Minnesota Wild.

IMG_6740 IMG_6741

Our usual “hold out the camera at arm’s length” photo. You can see that Fanless was being a total grumpy pants at this point.

IMG_6745

We didn’t even realize the game had started. There was the introduction of the team and the national anthem and then everyone sat down, and I guess they just started playing. We were like “did it start?” “I don’t know.” (I guess I’m used to the Heat games where they basically tell you every single thing going on.)

IMG_6746 IMG_6747

Fight!

IMG_6750

Do the other hockey teams have cheerleaders? I’m pretty sure this is a South Florida thing, no?

IMG_6751 IMG_6754

I don’t know why I got such a kick out of this sign the section usher was holding up, but I thought it was cute.

IMG_6748

Listen I’m not even gonna lie… We had absolutely NO idea what was going on – and there’s not a whole lot of announcing going on either – but it was still pretty fun. And when the Panthers score a goal? Holy crap! That place goes nuts! Horns, strobe lights, fog machine! Craziness, I tell you. Oh, and the Panthers won, 2-1.

Saturday:

Our Saturday was pretty mellow. We had to run a few errands (Best Buy, Target, Walmart). Since we were out by Aventura, we decided to visit the Adrenalina shop, which is related to the TV show of the same name. It’s a pretty cool place if you’re a 14-year-old boy. They have a Flowrider wave pool (just like the Royal Caribbean ships) and an area for kids to skateboard.

Untitled-1

The shop is located in The Village at Gulfstream Park, which is like a smaller scale version of the shopping and entertainment complex at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino.

IMG_6755

See? Here’s that picture again. At least he’s smiling this time (I used the old “this is for your mom!” tactic).

IMG_6756

Since we hadn’t had time to do dinner out on Friday, we decided to do Birthday Dinner on Saturday at a place in The Village called Cadillac Ranch.

 IMG_6758 Untitled-2

Oh my word… I hiiiighly recommend this place. DEEEE-liciousness!!! I had the Jumbo Shrimp and Crab Alfredo (I was literally stuffed after four bites; I can’t even explain how humongous the shrimp were, and there were tons of them). Fanless had the Prime Rib Special (my mouth is watering just looking at the picture) which, of course, I tried. We both agreed it was probably the most tender steak we’d had.

IMG_6760 IMG_6761

After dinner, we finished up our errands and went home to relax.

Sunday:

On Sunday we attended a co-ed Baby Shower for our friends, Mike and Kat. It was at Volunteer Park in Plantation, which was a nice location. We were in a large covered pavilion and just behind us was a little wooden bridge that looked out over a small creek surrounded by (what I guess is) marshland. I thought it was pretty, in it’s “nature-ness.”

IMG_6763 IMG_6764     IMG_6773 IMG_6780

The park also has some stables and we walked over to check out an equestrian event that was taking place at the time.

IMG_6776 IMG_6777

And in case you are wondering what boys do at a co-ed baby shower, here are Fanless and his friend, Eric, drinking beer and checking sports scores on their phones. The guys at the table behind them were watching the Dolphins game on a portable TV. It was pretty funny when the hostess was calling out the answers to one of the shower games and those guys cheered at a Dolphins touchdown, but we thought they were cheering about the shower game! Boys, I tell you.

IMG_6781

So that about covers it. It was a pretty fun weekend, and even though it was busy, it wasn’t crazy or tiring. Pretty perfect, if you ask me.

Peace out, yo!
