Searching for Normalcy

"And finally, above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that’s why I made works of art…" – Felix Gonzalez-Torres

Date Night with the Heat February 24, 2010

Just over a month ago, Fanless found a really sweet deal on tickets ($150 seats for $35 each) for last night’s Miami Heat v. Minnesota Timberwolves game. He purchased the tickets and we made a really fun date night out of it.

We got there pretty early, so we managed to get a parking spot in the garage at Bayside, and avoid any crowds or long lines going in to the American Airlines Arena. After making a quick restroom stop and grabbing some food and drinks at one of the concession stands, we made our way to our seats, which were just slightly off the center line, right behind the “sports dudes.” (Awesome!)

We also got to watch both teams go through their warm-ups.

After an amazing rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” by local gospel diva, Maryel Epps, and a Welcome Home tribute to two members of the Air Force, it was time to kick off the game. Or should I say tip off? Eh, whatever.

While the defense played really well, the Heats’ offensive strategy was really off last night. The Heat missed so many shots that the Timberwolves managed to score almost all of their points off rebounds from those missed shots.

Although Dwyane Wade wasn’t playing due to injury, he was present at the game. (Sorry for the lousy picture; it was taken with super-zoom.)

There was a halftime performance from the Coral Park High Cheerleaders, which was fun to watch. I was really hoping one of those little girls wouldn’t fall and crack her head open on the court.

And this appeared on the big screen just before the second half. So cute! I hope Gigi said yes!

During the second half, the Heat really put their game face on and closed the point gap. They kept the scores really close until – literally – the very last second. But, alas, the T-wolves got that last basket in right at the very last millisecond and managed to beat the Heat 91-88.

No matter; it was still a really fun game to watch and – with the exception of the drama caused by the wannabe “Jersey Shore” cast that tried to steal the row of seats in front of us, not knowing that almost all were already taken, and their owners were merely on a potty break – it was a great time!

And, of course, the only way to top off the evening was with a visit to Hooter’s. We ordered twenty wings (for the price of 10 with our Heat ticket), buffalo shrimp and a pound of crab legs. Needless to say, it was way too much food for just the two of us and about 14 of the wings and all the shrimp ended up going home in a styrofoam box.

It was really an awesome night. We hadn’t had a Date Night in a really long time, so it was nice to just do something fun and out of our routine. Yay for Date Night!

Peace out, yo!

Happy Me A to Z February 23, 2010

Please to be excusing the cheesy title of this post. Let me explain…

I love the WRITE.CLICK.SCRAPBOOK blog. Seriously, they have one the best teams of contributors on there and they always have great ideas. Last week it was Aly Dosdall’s turn to host the blog (they have a different host every week) and she presented this project (Happy Me A to Z mini album) that encourages scrapbookers to scrap about themselves, the things that are important to them, and that make them happy.

You see, too often we scrappers get caught up in commemorating other people (kids, significant others, family members) or specific events (birthdays, vacations, Christmas), but most scrappers rarely make themselves the topic of their scrapbook pages. I know I fall into that group. My top three scrap subjects – in order -are always Fanless, family, and my surrogate nieces and nephews (aka My Friends’ Kids).

So I decided that I want to take part in this project and create my own A to Z Happy Book. In order to remind myself which items to use for each of my letters, I am going to list them here:

A – Angels & Airwaves

B – Bacon cheesburgers (or really just bacon in any form)

C – Christian (duh; like he wouldn’t be on the list)

D – Daily Photo Project

E – Etsy

F – FrizzEase Leave In Conditioner

G – Google Reader

H – Hugs

I – Independence (not like 1776 independence; being able to support myself and not have to rely on anyone else independence)

J – Journals

K – Kids (not mine, obviously; see aforementioned surrogate nieces and nephews)

L – Leggings

M – Martha Stewart Punches (my favorite craft tools)

N – Nutella

O –

P – Pizza! Seriously, I could live solely on pizza.

Q – Quiet time

R – Reading

S – Scrapbooking (of course)

T – Thor backpack

U – Undereye concealer (an semi-insomniac’s best friend)

V – Visa

W – Washington

X – eXtra large handbags (hey, it was either that or a xylophone)

Y – “Yay!” (probably my most used word ever)

Z – Zoo (okay, this one is lame but I actually do love the zoo. I love animals and I needed a ‘Z’ word.)

So there’s my list. I don’t know how long it will take me to put the album together, but I will share it here when I’m done.

Peace out, yo!

Confession Time… February 8, 2010

I did not watch the Super Bowl. Fanless and I had plans to hang out at Tere’s for the game, but he was doing a job for a client that was going to take most of the day, so we decided to stay put. But, thanks to the creators of, I did get to see the Super Bowl commercials (and really, isn’t that the actual reason to watch?). So let me share my faves here.

1. Intel Robot – I want one! He’s so cute!

2. E-Trade Hustler – “Milka-whaaaa??”

3. Betty White Football – My favorite Golden Girl.

4. Shamu Bachelor Party – I can only imagine what they are going to tell the bride!

5. Doritos Kid – “Keep your hands off my momma!” LOL!

6. Parisian Love a la Google – *sigh* So sweet (Fanless brought this one to my attention)!

This Month… February 3, 2010

I am looking forward to:

  • My monthly Scrap Day with the girls. (Pretty paper, pizza, gossip, laughter, too much caffeine, and hours of fun being creative together.)
  • Watching “Man v. Food”’s live show from Shula’s Steakhouse at the Alexander Hotel on SoBe (tonight!) with my favorite boy.
  • A Super Bowl party at my most awesomest friend’s place.
  • An “out-of-the-norm,” completely unromantic, yet totally US, Valentine’s Day outing.
  • Maybe, tentatively, a New Found Glory show in Ft. Lauderdale.
  • A Miami Heat game with the best. seats. EVER!! (Thanx, babe!!)
  • A semi-medical appointment I’ve been putting off forever out of sheer laziness, and finally got around to scheduling.
  • Receiving my order from (I finally purchased some tools that I’ve been holding off on getting for a LOOOONG time; with their 40% off sale and free shipping promo, I saved $51.80. Pretty sweet deal!)
  • Reserving our hotel and getting our tickets for either the Daytona or Jacksonville Supercross next month.

What about you? What are you looking forward to this month?

Happy February, everyone! (No, seriously, where did January go???) Nothing exciting to share. Just four more layouts for my 100 Layouts Challenge. (Sorry the pictures are crappy. It was raining all day here so no natural lighting available.)

11-100: Fair Fun – All products are from KI Memories Juicy Summer collection. I really love how this one turned out. I kept the layout pretty simple since there are so many photos in the collage.

12-100: Making Bubbles – All products (except paper flowers) are from Sassafras. (Paper flowers made by me using vintage paper and buttons from my stash; video tutorial HERE, if you’re interested.)

14-100: California PCH – All products are Me & My Big Idea Travel collection, except fabric “flower” (made by me using fabric and buttons from my stash).

Oh, and in case you’re wondering how I made my photo collages, I used Mosaic Maker from (  It’s super easy to use, and you have the option of either ordering the prints from them, or downloading the image to your computer and printing them yourself. Just a tip!

That’s all for now. Peace out, yo!
